Pastor Joseph Obayemi is the current General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Nigeria. He replaced the former G.O., Pastor Enouch Adejare Adeboye (E.A. Adeboye) as the new General Overseer of the Church in Nigeria after appointed him during a ministers Thanksgiving service this January. Also appointed were Pastor Johnson  Odesola, as the new church secretary and Pastor Joseph Adeyokunnu, as the new treasurer.

Pastor Obayemi was a deputy in charge of Finance and a member of governing council, before his appointment.

The announcement was made in compliance with the new legal requirements set up by the Financial Regulations Council (FRC) for all registered churches, mosques, and CSOs - which stipulate that heads of non-profit organisations such as churches now have a maximum period of 20 years to lead their various organisations.

Pastor Enouch Adejare Adeboye, 75, was ordained by the church founder, Late Reverend Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi in 1981 and became the General Overseer of the RCCG in 1991.

Pastor Adeboye, who was named in 2008 by the American magazine Newsweek as one of the 50 most influential people in the world, will however, continue to lead the global ministry of the church.

Pastor Obayemi was promoted alongside others in August 2016, to the position of Assistant General Overseer, hence, his appointment to lead the Redeemed Christian Church Of God in Nigeria.

He was the Pastor in-charge of Region 2, RCCG, Green Pastures Arena, located in Shomolu, Lagos before eventually becoming the General Overseer of the church. He was also created with the laying of the foundation of Lagos province 28 extension  - the church’s temporary place of worship.

Before he was announced as the new GO, Pastor Obayemi represented Pastor E.A. Adeboye at various official occasions. He represented Pastor Adeboye at a church service organised in honour of Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, held on May 30, 2015 at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

Pastor Obayemi, who was a member of the church’s In-Land Mission, has also represented the RCCG at several Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) activities across the country.
