Raphael Ndukwe, 29, suspected to be responsible for the
murder of Imo catholic priest, late Rev. Fr. Cyriacus
Onunkwo, has been arrested by the police based on a tip-off.
Raphael, according to the police, was arrested at hideout in
the Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos. He is the leader of a kidnapping
gang that had been terrorising Imo State for many months.
The suspect, nicknamed Tiger, who confessed to a series of
other crimes, said it was not the first time he was escaping
to Lagos after committing crimes in other states of the
country, especially in the Eastern states.
The late Reverend was said to have been abducted by Raphael
Ndukwe and his gang on his way home to organise the funeral
of his late father. Ndukwe’s gang was also allegedly
responsible for the kidnap of one Gloria Emordi who was said
to have visited Imo State for a burial ceremony on April 22,
2017.
Ndukwe, according to reports, escaped to Lagos after four of
his members were arrested by the law enforcement officers in
Imo. On arrival in Lagos, Ndukwe settled down with some of
his friends who operate as thugs at the Alaba International
Market, Ojo, on the outskirts of Lagos before fleeing to
Ajangbadi, when the police closed in on him.
The police later tracked down 'Tiger' the suspect to
Ajangbadi were he was arrested him on September 10, 2017.
He has since been furnishing investigators with more
information on some of the crimes he and his gang
had committed both in Lagos and in several South-Eastern
states.
